Intel·ligència artificial i factors de risc en el càncer colorectal

The authorities continue to be highly concerned about colorectal cancer. Specifically, early diagnosis is one of the areas where the most investment is being made – as the case of MiWEndo – because, as has been documented, the five-year survival rate for this cancer is 92% if diagnosed in its first stage, while survival drops to 11% if detected in its fourth stage.

In this sense, this week we want to draw attention to a new European public-private collaboration program, AI4EU, in which the EU will finance innovators who develop artificial intelligence solutions to detect risk factors for the disease. This program is developed in collaboration with the company from Valladolid, Amadix, that as MiWEndo, is also focused on the diagnosis of colorectal cancer.

On the website of the call, the details of the solution to the challenge posed are exposed, but, basically, what is sought are natural language processing solutions, in order to find common patterns in patients from among the databases of medical records who suffer or have suffered colorectal cancer. Once these patterns, also called biomarkers in the field of biomedical sciences, have been found, clinicians may have more “clues” about which part of the population is at greatest risk of developing this cancer and, in this way, influence greater early detection of these.

So, if you are a natural language processing specialist, feel free to apply. € 70,000 await you!
